Kindergarten teachers face students who come from a variety of backgrounds, so it is important that they have the tools necessary to handle whatever challenges the students bring to the classroom. In this session we will discuss effective classroom management and effective management of the physical environment, and look at how they are both critical to controlling student behaviors within the classroom. All teachers recognize that they will have to manage behaviors. We will explore how having effective strategies, with the appropriate goal in mind, can promote positive behavior as well as reduce or even eliminate challenging behavior. Towards the end of the session, we will discuss advanced strategies for dealing with students who have persistent challenging behaviors or aggressive/explosive behaviors, as well as taking any specific questions from the participants.
